If you are not affiliated with the University of Chicago, check with your local library to determine what databases and borrowing options are available to you. Many college and university libraries subscribe to ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text. If you have access, connect to the dissertation database from your library's website and then go to the Advanced Search page. You can search for University of Chicago dissertations by entering 0330 in the School name/code--SCH field. You might also search to see if the dissertation you need is held by a nearby library.
One resource ProQuest offers is the database. The ProQuest Dissertations & Theses database includes nearly 3 million searchable citations to dissertation and theses from around the world from 1861 to the present day, together with more than 1 million full-text dissertations, which are available for download in PDF format. In addition to the full-text dissertations, more than 2 million titles are available for purchase as printed copies. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (formerly known as Digital Dissertations) allows users to search for dissertations and theses from over 1,000 North American and European universities.Proquest Dissertations and Theses covers every doctoral dissertation completed in the U.S. at accredited institutions for the last 150 years. Includes some master's theses and foreign language dissertations. Titles published since 1997 are available in PDF digital form full-text. ProQuest Dissertations and Theses — Full text is the world's most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses. The official digital dissertations archive for the Library of Congress and the database of record for graduate research. PQDT — Full Text includes 2.4 million dissertation and theses citations from around the world from 1861 to the present day together with 1 million full text dissertations that are available for download in PDF format. The database offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997 and strong retrospective full text coverage for older graduate works.There are two ways to find Cornell dissertations. You can search , a subset of ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, or go to and choose the Advanced Search. In a search box, type "Cornell"; from the adjacent drop-down menu, select School name/code and enter your search terms in the remaining search boxes to target your search. From the results, you can use citations to search the Cornell Library catalog for individual titles. In some cases, results will have the full-text of the dissertation and/or links to purchase the dissertation.Dissertation Abstracts (ProQuest Dissertations and Theses) covers dissertations accepted at accredited U.S. institutions since 1861, and thousands of new dissertations and theses are added each year. For dissertations done in 1997 and later, PDFs of some titles are available. For some items, references are given to the print edition of Dissertation Abstracts, American Doctoral Dissertations, and Masters Abstracts. Abstracts may be consulted in those publications. Check with your librarian for further information the availability of those print publications. Not all dissertations from all participating universities are included in Dissertation Abstracts. Coverage depends on the date a university began online contribution of their abstracts to University Microfilms International (now ProQuest). Also, for many European universities the contribution of abstracts was the responsibility of the student and therefore may not have been included.For assistance in locating the full text of dissertations and theses, please speak with a reference librarian at your college or university.
